Description
The Rockhopper penguins live on rocky islands north of Antarctica from Chili to New Zealand. They are a little less than 2 feet tall and live on fish, squid and krill. They live is vast, very noisy groups and usually return to the same breeding grounds every year often choosing the same nest and the same mate.
Their primary predators are Leopard seals.
These penguins are distinguished by a yellow tuff of feathers behind their red eyes.
The number of Rockhoppers are in serious decline because of overfishing and pollution and have been listed as a vulnerable species.
