Artist's Description
Interesting pattern on the backside of a fern of winter frost. A fern is a member of a group of about 12,000 species of vascular plants that reproduce by spores. They do not flower and they do not have seeds.
Ferns first appeared in the fossil record 360 million years ago (late Devonian period), but the present day species date back about 145 million years in early Cretaceous.
