Description
This female Evening Grosbeak is a common visitor to our bird feeders at this time of the year.
The Evening Grosbeak is a large finch native to the northern North American coniferous forest.
The males have bright beautiful colours of yellow, black and white with a large head and massive bill. The female is more subtly marked with golden highlights on her soft, gray plumage.
This is a species in decline and it has become much less common especially in the eastern parts of United States.
The Evening Grosbeaks are social birds commonly living in groups or flocks, primarily in the winter. They are often found at birdfeeders, and when not feeding in backyards, they feed on insects, larvaes, seeds, buds, nuts, berries and fruit.
