A little grove of aspen trees in Port Alberni, Vancouver Island.
Aspen - or Quaking or Trembling Aspen (Populus tremuloides) is native to the northern and western North America. It is a medium sized deciduous tree that often grow in clonal colonies and have a common root system. This widespread root system can live for thousands of years while the tree itself has a lifespan of 40 to 140 years.
Aspens are sun-loving trees - they do not thrive is the shade. It the fall they become a brilliant yellow colour.
