Artist's Description

Delicate, pink, heart-shaped flowers hang in small, branched clusters above soft, fern-like, leaves at base.
The flowers are about 3/4" long. At the base, two small sepals that drop off; four petals, pale pink or rose - in two pairs: Outer two have a pouch at the base, forming the outline of a heart, with spreading tips, and two inner petals facing one another, with a wavy crest on the back, enclosing six stamens and one pistil.
The Western Bleeding Heart is common from southern British Columbia to central California.
